How to Convert Works .Wps Extension to Open Office

Some word processor programs allow you to create and save file extensions that are exclusive to their program, such as the .wps format in Microsoft Works. However, they also offer other extensions for saving in universal formats that will allow for viewing, editing, modification and saving your word processor document across other word processor platforms, such as Open Office Writer.

      Locate and open the file that you would like to convert in Microsoft Works.

      Access the "File" option from the menu bar in Microsoft Works and choose "Save As" from the drop-down menu. Click on the drop-down menu next to "Save as type" and change the file extension to Word 97-2003 Document (.doc). Save your file in this format. Close Microsoft Works.

      Open the "Open Office Writer" program. Choose "File" on the menu bar and select "Open" from the drop-down options. Locate the file that you converted to the Word 97-2003 document by browsing the folders. Select the file and press the "Open" button.
