How to Add or Remove Key Commands in Logic Pro 8
Almost every function in Logic Pro 8 can be executed through the use of keystrokes on your Apple keyboard. These keystrokes are called key commands and regardless of how you use Logic they can significantly improve your workflow. Although Logic Pro has numerous pre-programmed key commands for commonly used functions, customizing the program by creating key commands that match your personal needs will improve your experience with Logic Pro's interface. This article details the steps in adding and removing key commands in Logic Pro.
Instructions

-
1
Open key commands window. This can be done two ways:
1. From the Logic Pro menu choose Preferences>Key commands.
2. Press Option-K on the keyboard. -
2
Select the desired function from the command column of window. All available functions can be viewed by clicking the disclosure triangle to the left of the type of command you are trying to assign. For example, clicking the 'Global Commands' triangle will reveal all of the global commands such as Record, Play, Pause, Stop. Commands can also be found by typing their name into the 'find field' on the commands window. Any command matching the entered term will automatically be revealed in the window's commands column.

3
Click the "learn by key label' button in the command window and enter the key combination you want assigned to the command.
Note: If you alternatively select the 'learn by key position' button the key position remains the same if you switch between different system language settings or different keyboards. For example, a function assigned to the Y key on an English keyboard would function in the same way as the Z key on a German keyboard (which has a Z key in the same position as the Y key of an English keyboard).

If the entered key combination is already in use by Logic Pro, a dialog box will pop up. This dialog box will give you the choice to replace the key command (which will replace the existing shortcut), cancel the new key command (which will not change anything), or OK, which will assign the key command to the new function while retaining the key command for the existing function as well.

5
To remove a key command follow the next four steps.
-
6
Open the commands window (option + K).
-
7
Select the desired command from the command column.
-
8
Select 'learn by key label' button (or 'learn by key position' if that is how you assigned your key command).
-
9
Press delete (backspace) and the key command will be removed.
