How to Add a Stock Ticker to Your Web Page

Adding new content and features to a website keeps visitors coming back on a regular basis. Financial sites that offer information on the stock market can use a stock ticker to foster repeat visitors. The stock ticker provides new information every day, which gives traders a reason to return on a daily basis. Website owners can use an existing online script to add a stock ticker to a web page. They can then keep their visitors informed of changing prices and other daily information about the stock market.

Instructions

    • 1

Access the free Yahoo! Finance stock tools for websites. The tools include stock tickers with quotes and stock charts and news. Click on the "Start Now" button. Log in or create a new Yahoo! account.

    • 2

Select one of the three modules on the next page. Choose the module that includes stock quotes, charts and news for the most features.

    • 3

Make the content selections on the next page. Choose a color based on the color scheme of the web page that will contain the stock ticker. Choose a size based on the design of the web page and amount of space. Enter up to 10 stock symbols. Use the "Get Quotes" feature on the Yahoo! Finance home page to find symbols for the chosen companies. Type in the company names to see the corresponding stock symbols.

    • 4

Click on "Get Code" and copy the module HTML code. Log in at the web host cPanel for the web page and click on the "File Manager" link. Find and double click on the web page that will contain the stock information.

    • 5

Click on "Edit" to access the HTML of the web page. Paste the previously copied code for the module into the desired place on the web page. Click the "Save Changes" button to save the page. Open the page in a browser to confirm that the stock ticker appears on the web page. Create a new stock module and modify the content settings if the size or other features of the module do not match the web page.

Tips & Warnings

  • Create multiple modules for different industry sectors of the market. Adding new pages and modules for each sector speeds up research for visitors.

  • Do not use the news feature of the stock modules as a replacement for unique content. Write original articles or news updates to keep visitors at the website.
