How to Make a Grapple Apple

Grapple apples are a tricky treat that taste both like apples and grapes. These apples are an adventurous way to encourage family members to consume more healthy food choices each day. Grapples are available in grocery stores across the nation but come at quite a price. They can be replicated at home for much less. Make grapple apples with little more than store-bought apples, grape drink mix, a little sugar and water. Does this Spark an idea?

Things You'll Need

  • 1 1/2 qts. water
  • 6 Fuji apples
  • Grape drink mix packet
  • 3/4 cup sugar
  • Paring knife
  • Large bowl

Instructions

      Wash the six Fuji apples under cool running water. Remove any labels or stickers on the apple skin. Pull out the apple stems and set the clean apples aside to air-dry.

      Mix together the grape drink packet, sugar, and 1 1/2 qts. of water. Pour the grape liquid into the large bowl. Set the bowl aside.

      Poke the Fuji apples with a paring knife four times each. Prick the apples twice in the top of the fruit and twice near the bottom. Space the holes evenly to allow the grape flavor to steep in during the soaking process.

      Place the fully prepared apples into the liquid in the bowl. Place the bowl into the refrigerator on a level surface. Allow the apples to soak for 12 hours.

      Remove each apple from the grape flavoring. Rinse each apple under cool water to remove any sticky residue. Serve the grapple apples immediately, and fully consume within three days. Keep all grapple apples refrigerated.
