How to Convert a DVD to AVI With Gordian Knot
Gordian Knot, also known as auto Gordian Knot, is a video encoding program that is used to convert DVD media into an AVI container file. Gordian Knot is well known for its ease of use and the fact that it is a free software. This program allows for the conversion of DVD media with a few menu selections.

Insert the DVD you wish to convert into your computer's DVD drive.

Launch Gordian Knot from its installed location.

Select DVDs IFO file on the program's initial screen by using the navigation button to the right of the heading "Input file:"

Set the destination for the AVI file that will be produced by clicking the navigation button to the right of the heading "Output file:" You may change the name of the output file at this point if you would like.

Click the "Next" button.

Select the audio track you wish to use from the DVDs available audio options. In most circumstances there will be multiple languages and speaker channel configurations. Set the language to that which you desire and select six channel sound if your computer uses 5.1 surround sound or two channel sound if your computer only uses two speakers. You may also select any subtitles you wish to have displayed in the final AVI file produced at this point by using the drop-down box below the audio tracks selection menu.

Click the "Next" button.

Set the maximum output size of the AVI file you wish to create from the pulldown menu. Generally speaking, the larger the file size you select the higher quality the final AVI file will possess.

Click the "Next" button.

Click the "Add Job" button now shown in the upper left portion of the program's main window.

Click the "Start" button to the right of the "Add Job" button in the main program window. This will begin the DVD conversion to AVI at the destination you set earlier. This process may take several minutes to several hours depending on the size of the video and the speed of your computer.
