How to Troubleshoot an Electric Scooter
An electric scooter is a personal transport vehicle that runs on a battery which can be charged from your home's electrical outlet. Electric scooters are perfect for riding in urban areas. They generate less pollution and are a good alternative to gas scooters for the environmentally-conscious consumer. Troubleshooting problems with an electric scooter is a little different from gas scooters and requires some battery know-how.

Motor Running but No Movement

Apply speed to the throttle to see if the engine revs.

Check that the back wheel doesn't spin when revving the engine. If the engine revs without the wheel spinning, one of the drive belts is likely to be loose.

Check that the drive belt, drive chain and sprocket of the bike are not worn out. Verify that the belt is taut and that it doesn't sag or wobble when the engine is running. Check for cracks or places that feel dry and brittle along the drive belt and replace it with a new one if necessary.

Check that the battery is plugged in properly and that all connectors are working.

Look at the battery charger to make sure it is charging your battery properly. Use a battery charger to test whether the battery will charge from a different unit.

Check the outlet you are attempting to charge your battery from. Plug in an appliance to test whether it is working.

Check the output voltage for your battery and compare it to the acceptable battery levels indicated in your scooter manual. Your scooter will not run without a decent output. The battery should be over its rated voltage level if it has been at rest. If it is below its rated level, the battery is low. Charge the battery and check it again. Replace the battery if charging does not provide sufficient voltage.
