How to Fix an Outlook Express POP Email Error

Outlook Express is a popular email client that is utilized by a large number of computer users for home and work email. One of the reasons that so many people use Outlook is that it came as a standard software installation with legacy versions of Internet Explorer. If you are a regular user of Outlook Express, you may sometimes encounter errors when trying to send and receive email. If you encounter a "POP error" while using Outlook Express, the problem can be solved without having to seek out professional assistance.

Instructions

    • 1

Confirm that your computer is connected to the Internet. In order to do this, open the Internet Explorer Browser on your computer and navigate to any Web page. If you successfully load a Web page, you are connected to the Internet. If you fail to connect to the Internet, restart your computer and reset your Internet connection and try this step again.

    • 2

Open Outlook Express and click on the "Tools" menu button. Then, select the "Accounts" menu option followed by the "Mail" menu tab.

    • 3

Double left click your email account listed on the subsequent menu. If there are multiple accounts that are listed on the account listing, select the one that is giving you the "POP Email Error."

    • 4

View the "Properties" menu box that opens on your computer screen. Verify the SMTP server address, POP3 server address, SMTP port number and POP3 port number, against the information that your Internet service provider has given you.

    • 5

Correct any entries that are not the same as your Internet Service Providers configuration requirements and select the "Apply" menu button. Exit Outlook Express and restart the program. Your POP Email Error will now be corrected.
