How to Take Apart the Jack Lalanne Juicer

Although you won't find the Jack LaLanne Power Juicer how-to-clean instructions on the Jack LaLanne Juicer website, you'll find a wealth of information about the juicer's creator. As a health and fitness visionary, Jack LaLanne introduced the juicer that bears his name in 2002. Since the debut of that first model, other models have joined the ranks. Properly taking apart a Jack LaLanne juicer is the first step toward cleaning each component between uses.

The Fusion Juicer is only one Jack LaLanne juicer model. The user manual for this model, as well as other models, note similar instructions for taking apart the juicer. But there are also other models, such as the Power Juicer, that follow a different protocol for disassembly. Be sure to consult your operating manual for model-specific instructions so you'll properly take apart your juicer.

The Jack LaLanne Power Juicer how-to-clean instructions, found in the operating manual, include a crescent-shaped tool that you'll have to use in order to remove the blade from the bottom of the filter. Before taking apart any Jack LaLanne juicer, turn off the power to the appliance and unplug it.

Remove the pusher from the chute on top of the pulp guard before lowering the silver locking bar to unlock the lid. Remove the lid and the pulp collector, which is at the back of the juicer.

To unlock the blade, press the two pegs on the orange crescent-shaped tool into the two holes on either side of the blade and turn the tool counterclockwise. Remove the blade, being careful not to cut yourself, and then remove the filter and the receptacle from the base of the juicer.

Some Jack LaLanne juicer models, such as the Power Juicer Express and the Fusion Juicer, don't require the use of the crescent tool for disassembly. In these models, the filter and blade are one unit, and even though there are screws that hold them together, they're not designed to be taken apart with a crescent tool or any other type of tool.

Disassembling models that don't require a crescent tool begins the same way as disassembling the Power Juicer — by removing the pusher from the chute, lowering the locking bar to unlock the lid and removing the lid.

For the Power Juicer Express, the next step is removing the pulp collector at the back of the appliance by sliding it away from the base and unhooking it from the lip on the receptacle. With two hands, grasp the receptacle and filter/blade and remove these components by twisting them in a clockwise or counterclockwise motion and pulling upward until they're free from the base of the juicer.

For the Fusion Juicer, after you've removed the lid, remove the receptacle that contains the one-part filter and blade by lifting it away from the juicer. Separate the blade/filter from the receptacle and remove the pulp collector from the back of the juicer.

After disassembling a Jack LaLanne juicer, you can clean the individual components (except for the base with the power cord) in a home dishwasher. The user manuals for all models caution against cleaning in commercial and foreign-manufactured dishwashers because they clean at higher temperatures than home dishwashers. Wipe the base with a damp sponge or cloth while it's unplugged.

If washing by hand, clean all juicer components with warm, soapy water, and avoid using abrasive cleansers or cloths. Using a bristled brush to clean the filter and blade helps dislodge food pulp.
