How to Recycle a Credit Card

After a credit card has expired or after you don't want to use a credit card anymore, then you will want to dispose of the credit card in the correct way. You don't want to just throw your credit card away, as theft and re-use of the credit card could occur. You can cut the card up and even recycle portions of it with the proper procedures.

Instructions

    • 1

Flip the credit card over on its back side. Cut the black strip section of the credit card out of the credit card.

    • 2

Cut the black strip into small pieces. Throw the black strip into the trash. The black strip has a small amount of metal in it, so you don't want to recycle that part.

    • 3

Cut the other numbered, plastic area of the credit card up into many pieces. Dispose of the plastic pieces at a plastic recycle bin.
