How to Upgrade Palm OS

With its many features, including Internet access and MP3 player, Palm handheld devices are basically mini computers. And like all computers, they use an operating system (OS) to run programs. When you buy a new Palm, it comes installed with the current OS, however new operating systems may become available after purchase. So if you're interested in upgrading the OS on your Palm the good news is that you can do it yourself in a matter of moments.

      Connect your Palm to your computer via the USB (Universal Serial Bus) cable that was included with the Palm device upon purchase.

      Open the "Palm Desktop" program by clicking on its icon on your desktop. If you have not installed the "Palm Desktop" program on your computer, insert the program CD that came with your Palm device into the drive in your computer and follow the prompts to complete setup.

      Open the Internet browser on your computer and navigate to www.palm.com/support/upgrade. Click "Continue" on the Main overview page of the site.

      Fill in the required information (model of phone, language used, etc.) in the window when prompted and click "Continue."

      Type your Email address into the box when prompted and click "Continue" to proceed to the upgrade information page. Read the upgrade precautions on this page and click "Continue" to proceed to the download page.

      Click on "Installation Wizard" in the download page to begin downloading the most recent OS. The installation will take about six minutes and you can monitor the download by watching the progress bar at the bottom of the screen.

      Click "OK" when prompted to calibrate your Palm device's display and complete the installation process. The new OS will new be installed on your Palm.
