How to Configure My 2Wire Modem
A digital subscriber line (DSL) circuit is a fast, relatively low-cost way to connect to the Internet. If you get your DSL service through AT&T, you will probably receive a 2Wire modem in the mail to hook up to your DSL service when it is installed. The documentation, cables and attachments you receive along with the modem may be confusing at first glance. But, the steps are easy if taken in order. Once you plug it in, the modem is user-friendly.

- 2Wire modem
- AC power supply (provided with modem)
- DSL filter (provided with modem)
- Phone cable (provided with modem)
- Ethernet cable
- Computer with network card and CD drive
- Setup CD (provided with modem)
- 20-digit key code (provided with modem)

Unpack the modem. Verify the contents with the list above. If you are missing any components, contact your phone company.

Plug the DSL filter into the phone jack that provides your DSL signal. If your DSL package does not include phone service, skip this step.

Plug the phone cable provided with the modem into the DSL filter in the port marked "Line." Plug your telephone into the port marked "Phone." If your service does not include a phone line, plug the DSL phone cable directly into the outlet.

Plug the DSL phone cable into the phone line port on the modem's back panel.

Connect the power cord to the modem and plug it into a wall outlet.

Turn your computer on. Connect your computer to the modem with the ethernet cable. Plug one end of the cable into any ethernet port on the back of the modem. Insert the other end of the cable into the ethernet port on your computer.

Turn the modem on. After the modem goes through a short boot process, the power and ethernet lights on the front of the modem should be green. If the ethernet light is not green, check the cable connections on the computer and modem.

Insert the setup CD into your computer's drive. Follow the on-screen instructions for final configuration. If the setup wizard does not start automatically, open Windows Explorer, locate and open your CD drive and double-click "setup.exe." When prompted, enter your 20-digit key code.

Open your browser. Follow any additional steps required by your provider to complete the configuration.

Tips & Warnings
After running the setup wizard, the modem will be connected to the Internet. The DSL light on the modem's front panel should be a solid green.
2Wire modems will not work while certain types of software are installed on a computer. Check the modem's documentation for a list. Uninstall any conflicting software before configuring your modem.
If you plan to use a wireless connection with your 2Wire modem, inform your phone company when ordering your service. Not all 2Wire models support wireless connections.
