How to Border & Text in Lightroom 2

Adobe Lightroom 2 is a digital photography management program that allows users to categorize and apply individual or batch manipulations to their photographs before exportation. Its most common use is for its RAW image development capabilities, which give photographers control over the development and post-processing of their images. RAW is a file format similar to JPG, but is an unedited version of a photograph (similar to a film negative) with no post-processing applied. Lightroom 2 also includes two features that were not part of the first version of Lightroom: the ability to add text and borders.

Instructions

  1. Text

    • 1

Click on the "Slideshow" module within Lightroom 2, and click on the photo to which you would like to add text.

    • 2

Click the "ABC" button, which will activate the text box tool.

    • 3

Type your text into the "Custom Text" box and press the "Enter" key. You can also use the Custom Text pop-up menu to automatically add certain pieces of information, such as photograph metadata, your organization scheme or star rating.

    • 4

Edit the color, opacity, font and font faces of the text by using the corresponding menus next to the "Custom Text" box.

    • 5

Adjust the size of the text by clicking and dragging on the corners of the box that surrounds the text. Drag inward to decrease the font size and drag outward to increase it. Move the text around by clicking inside the text box and dragging your cursor to an area on the photograph.

    Border

    • 6

Open the "Image Settings" panel and select the photograph to which you would like to add a border.

    • 7

Click the "Stroke Border" option to add a uniform border around your photo.

    • 8

Select the color of your border by selecting a color from the Color Swatch menu.

    • 9

Adjust the size of your border by clicking and dragging the arrow in the "Width" slider.

    • 10

Customize the lightness, distance from the edge, softness of shadow and angle of shadow by editing the values in the Opacity, Offset, Radius and Angle options.

Tips & Warnings

  • Text and borders can be added to multiple pictures simultaneously by selecting more than one image from the "Slideshow" menu. Drag a selection around a series of images, or press and hold the Ctrl key (Cmd key on Mac OS X) and click on multiple images to add each to your selection.
