How to Use Splenda in Recipes

Splenda is a brand of sugar- and calorie-free sweetener used for sweetening foods and drinks. Splenda is available in both regular and Splenda Sugar Blend, which contains a mixture of sugar and Splenda. Each allows you to bake foods that call for sugar while using Splenda as a sugar replacement. One cup of Splenda is equal to 1 cup regular sugar, while 1/2 cup of Splenda Sugar Blend equals 1 cup regular sugar. Splenda can be used in baking, frozen desserts and home canning in which sugar is used for flavor and not a preservative. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

    • 1

Choose a recipe in which sugar is used to sweeten and is not intended to provide volume, such as with frosting or fillings, or food preservation, as in some canning recipes. Determine how much sugar is called for in the recipe you are using.

    • 2

Replace the required amount of sugar with Splenda by measuring the correct amount of Splenda. Use only 1/2 of the required sugar called for in your recipe if you are using Splenda Sugar Blend, which contains sugar combined with Splenda.

    • 3

Add the measured Splenda or Splenda Sugar Blend to your recipe and complete the recipe as required.

Tips & Warnings

  • Splenda cannot be used to activate yeast. Use 2 tbsp. of regular sugar to activate yeast, and then proceed with Splenda in the recipe as desired.

  • Splenda may be used for making frostings, however only a small amount of Splenda can be used effectively. Replace 25 percent of the sugar required for your frosting recipe with Splenda, and use regular sugar for the remainder.

  • Monitor baking times, as baked goods made with Splenda may bake quicker than recipes made with sugar.
