How to Change Mailbox Display Name in Outlook Exchange

The display name in Microsoft Outlook is the name that users see in the "From" line of emails that they send or receive. Many times, computer users will want to change the display name from the rather generic and non-descriptive email address that appears to a personal name so that the reader can quickly identify the person as the sender of the email. Administrators with the proper authorization on Outlook Exchange networks can use this method to change a display name quickly.

Instructions

    • 1

Log on to Exchange using your administrative credentials. Navigate to and open "Active Directory Users and Computers."

    • 2

Scroll down to the user in question, click, and open "Properties."

    • 3

Click on the "General" tab. Type in the new display name for the user in the text box.

    • 4

Select the "Advanced" tab. Click the button labeled "Custom Attributes."

    • 5

      Click the "OK" button twice.
