Instructions

  1. Preparing the Paneling

    • 1

Place the two sponges in their respective buckets and fill the buckets with warm water.

    • 2

Place detergent into one of buckets.

    • 3

Pull the sponge from the detergent bucket and wring it out so that it is still wet, but will not drip.

    • 4

Begin washing the paneling from the bottom to the top to avoid causing water streaks that can take longer to remove.

    • 5

Allow the paneling to dry completely.

    • 6

Sand the shine off the paneling using a sanding block and 180-grit paper. If there are heavy globs of paint on the wood, use an 80-grit sandpaper to remove them. Once the globs and shine are removed, the paneling is prepped for painting.

    Painting

    • 7

Lay down paint cloths underneath the paneling to catch any drops and verify that the paint and primer are well-mixed before beginning.

    • 8

Paint the paneling with a primer and allow it to dry. The primer will prevent any stains in the original paint from bleeding through onto the new paint.

    • 9

Paint the paneling with one coat of the desired paint color and allow it to dry completely. Paint again with one more layer to ensure a vibrant color.

    • 10

Clean up the painting supplies and allow the room to dry completely before moving any furniture against the paneling.
