How to Change the Battery in My Cassette Adapter

Cassette adapters are used to convert the connection for one type of electronic component to another. For example, cassette adapters are available to attach an iPod to a car stereo's cassette tape deck for enjoying iPod tunes. Other cassette adapters are used to adapt a videocassette, such as VHS-C tape, for use in a standard VCR. These devices typically require a single AA or AAA size battery to operate.

Instructions

    • 1

Open the battery compartment on the right-hand edge of the cassette adapter by sliding the cover in the direction of the arrow.

    • 2

Remove and discard the old battery.

    • 3

Install a new battery by matching the polarity of the battery with the prongs inside the battery compartment. The polarity is labeled with a plus (+) sign on one end and a minus (-) on the other.

    • 4

Replace the battery cover by sliding it back into the grooves and clicking into place.

Tips & Warnings

  • Keep a few spare batteries in the glove box of a car or truck to keep the tunes playing when the cassette adapter battery eventually wears out.

  • Replace the battery regularly. On some adapters designed for use in a VCR, the adapter will not eject if the battery dies while inside the machine. This requires removing the cover on the VCR to extract the adapter.
