How to Clean Silver Jewelry With Stones

Silver jewelry, from rings to bracelets to earrings, has become increasingly popular over the last few decades. Many times silver jewelry can tarnish because other materials are added to the silver, such as copper, to make it stronger and more durable. Sterling silver is around 92.5 percent pure silver and will tarnish at a faster rate than "Fine Silver" that is 99.9 percent silver. It is possible to clean silver jewelry that has embellishments at home, without having to pay a professional.

Things You'll Need

• Dishwashing detergent
• Water
• Several soft cotton cloths
• Anti-tarnish tissue
• Plastic bag

Instructions

1. Dilute a few drops of mild dishwashing detergent in a cup of warm water.

2. Soak a soft cloth with the mixture and gently rub the jewelry, making sure to work the soap into any creases and crevices with the corner of the cloth.

3. Gently dry the piece with a cotton cloth.

4. Place it on a soft cloth and allow it to completely air dry.

5. Store the silver jewelry by wrapping it in anti-tarnish tissue and then placing it in a plastic bag.
