How to Delete Drop-Down Search Toolbars on a Mac

Most every Internet browser features a drop-down search toolbar, whether it came pre-installed on the browser or became installed on your browser with the installation of a messenger service or other program. If you don't want your searches to be available to everyone on your Mac, get rid of drop-down search toolbars by either deleting the drop-down search toolbar history or completely deleting the drop-down search toolbar from your computer.

Instructions

  1. Delete Toolbar History

      Click inside the search toolbar to position your cursor within the toolbar.

      Press the down arrow to cause a drop-down menu of search history to appear.

      Click on the search you wish to delete in order to select it, and press the delete "Del" key to delete it.

      Click "Go" and then "Applications" from the "Finder" menu to see a list of the applications installed on your Mac.

      Locate the drop-down search toolbar that you wish to delete from your Mac.

      Drag the application icon to the drop-down toolbar you wish to delete to your "Trash" icon to delete the drop-down search toolbar from your Mac.

Tips & Warnings

  • Hold down the "Delete" key to delete all searches stored in a toolbar history.

  • You might be prompted to input an administrator password in order to delete drop-down search toolbars on a Mac.
