How to Stop Windows Mail From Forwarding Messages

Windows Mail, the default email client included with Windows Vista, has the ability to configure rules about the way messages are handled. One popular rule that can be set up is to have Windows Mail automatically forward incoming messages to another email address--a feature that can be particularly useful if you will be away from the computer for an extended period. When you return, however, you will want Windows Mail to stop forwarding your messages. Delete the associated rule when you no longer want Windows Mail to forward messages automatically.

Instructions

    • 1

Launch Windows Mail. Navigate to the "Tools" menu at the top of the screen, then click "Rules" and "Mail." This displays the "Message Rules" window.

    • 2

Confirm that the "Mail Rules" tab is selected, then click the rule that you would like to delete. If the rule that is causing messages to be automatically forwarded is not readily apparent by its name, click each rule then read the text shown under "Rule Description" on the bottom of the window.

    • 3

Click the "Remove" button after selecting the rule that you want to delete.

    • 4

Click "OK" to close the window and return to Windows Mail.
