Coordinate a meeting comprised of people willing to get involved in the charity. See what they can contribute to help make the book drive successful. Also determine which types of books you will accept. Will you take both secular and religious books? Will you accept books that are missing their covers? For you to make as much money for the charity as possible, you will want to have a large variety of books in good condition available for purchase.

Find a location where you can hold your book drive. Ask local businesses if you can use some of their space or you can ask schools, churches, or community centers whether you can have the book drive in their location. You also need to find a place where you can store the books after they have been donated.

Advertise your book drive as soon as you have confirmed a date, place and time for the event. Make colorful signs to post on lampposts and street corners. You can also spread the word through websites like Facebook, MySpace and Craigslist by creating special posts or pages for the event. If you have the money, buy ad space in your local newspaper or on local radio or TV stations. Make sure to state that the book drive is for charity purposes.

Assemble your volunteers on the day of the book drive. Have them bring plenty of boxes and snacks to last them throughout the duration of the event. As you receive donations, organize the books by genre and price. For instance, you can have a box for Science Fiction books or you can have a box of 50-cent novels and a box of 75-cent books.

Find a location where you can sell the books. Look for a place where you can set up as many tables as you'll need to display the books. Advertise the book sale just as you did the book drive.
