How to Make Party Favor Poppers

These are fun for all ages.

Instructions

Things You'll Need:

• Cardboard Tubes
• Curling Ribbons
• Candies
• Toys

1. Collect cardboard tubes. Empty toilet paper rolls are ideal; you can also use cut paper towel rolls or discarded wrapping paper tubes.

2. Fill each tube with goodies such as candies or novelty toys. Choose age-appropriate gifts. Mini-bottles are a real hit with adults while chocolate coins are great for kids.

3. Wrap each tube in colored tissue paper.

4. Secure the ends with curling ribbon tied in a bow.

Tips & Warnings

• Cardboard is easiest to cut with a serrated knife.

on 6/30/2006 Fold your paper the hamburger way; 1 1/2 of an inch. Repeat till there is a small sliver of paper at the bottom. Fold in half. Then open a small amount. Push the corner of the sliver up to make the ears. Close. Bring your hand down hard. It should make a loud pop.

on 11/22/2005 Get a piece of paper and fold it "hot dog style" (less than halfway), then fold the other side down. There should be a little extra slit of paper. Next, fold it "hamburger style" and pull the long slits of paper up. There should now be two ends of paper. Keep a firm grip on this and throw your hand downward. It should make a loud popping sound.

on 11/22/2005 After wrapping the roll in paper (before tying the first end) insert a second roll of the same size into the wrapping paper. The distance between the two rolls should be equal to the diameter of the roll. Now place the string in the middle of the two rolls and slowly pull it tight. The second roll helps to keep the end shaped neatly. Once fastened, pull out the second roll, fill the popper (cracker) and use the same extra roll to mould the open end of the popper. Keep the distance between the two rolls, place the string in the middle of the two rolls and slowly pull tight. Remove the extra roll and your popper (Christmas crackers) now has nice rounded ends.

on 11/22/2005 We call them "crackers." More fillers: topical cartoons, home-made truffles, fortune cookies, old-fashioned gobstoppers, mini perfumes. Last minute: a fresh flower, a sprig of herbs or something "lost" to be "found" again (a jigsaw piece, a sock ...)!
