How to Display Earrings for Kids

There are a number of fast, fun, and easy ways to display your child's earring collection. The trick is to balance artistry with function. It takes very little effort to transform a box of mixed-up pieces into an organized, easy-to-find jewelery center. The best part is, these ideas can be created with the help of your child, giving her a sense of pride and ownership.

Things You'll Need

• 12- by 12-inch piece of felt
• Paper pattern
• Permanent marker
• Scissors
• Decorative tacks
• Egg carton
• Fabric scraps
• Hot glue

Instructions

Choose Your Style

1. Determine which of style of earring display units---felt organizer or egg carton---you would like to make. Decide how much space you have available for your jewelry holder. Whereas one needs room on a dresser or side table, another can be tucked in an out-of- the-way spot.

2. Decide if you're going to make the display as a surprise for your child or if you would like her to share the fun.

3. Take an inventory of what you have lying around the house. There's no reason to buy anything if you don't have to.

Felt Organizer

1. Lay a 12- by 12-inch piece of felt on a table.

2. Place a paper pattern of any shape on top of the felt and trace it with a permanent marker.

3. Cut the felt out along the lines.

4. Attach the felt to the wall of your child's bedroom using two decorative tacks. Earrings easily slip through the fabric, neatly keeping all of her earrings in one place.

Egg Carton Jewelry Box

1. Clean an egg carton. Cardboard or plastic work equally well.

2. Using scissors, cut the top cover off of the egg carton.

3. Glue small scraps of fabric or construction paper to the outside of the carton, overlapping pieces so that the carton is totally covered.

4. Place earrings in the 12 spaces.

Tips & Warnings

• If you don't have a hot glue gun you can use industrial strength glue. Pin nails will work just as well as decorative tacks.
