How to Compare Rebounder Exercisers

Rebounder exercisers are mini trampolines designed for home use. Choosing between rebounders usually boils down to cost, with models costing anywhere from $30 to well over $200, and feel. You want a rebounder that feels supple and resilient beneath you, is large and strong enough to support your weight, and sturdy enough to retain that resilience through months if not years of consistent use.

Instructions

    • 1

Check the maximum weight limit and the size of the rebounder on the packaging. Make sure it's large enough, and strong enough, to hold you.

    • 2

Examine the hinges on the rebounder. Are they integral to the frame or welded on to the outside of it? Welded-on hinges may have protruding edges or external moving parts that may create a pinch hazard.

    • 3

Check the springs. Are they securely fastened to the mat? If you see exposed metal edges, move on to the next rebounder; they present cut and snag hazards. Compare the springs on various rebounders; the more spring coils and the wider the spring's circumference, the more force it can absorb.

    • 4

Check to see whether the rebounder comes with a stabilizing bar that can be attached to the legs to help keep the rebounder steady. Another "luxury" feature to look for is a carrying or storage case.

    • 5

Bounce on the rebounder at least a few times if at all possible; if not, take it home and try it out before disposing of the packaging and receipt. Bounce gently; is the platform springy, resilient and responsive? Does it feel sturdy or does it feel as though it might tear beneath you? Next, bounce as hard as you can, keeping in mind that on some poorly constructed rebounders this might cause you to "bottom out" as the mat sags all the way down to the ground. If the quality of the bounce is still pleasant even at this intensity, and if the rebounder is in your price range, you have a winner.

Tips & Warnings

  • Some rebounders come with a warranty. Depending on how much of an investment you're making, and how often you plan to use the rebounder, it may or may not be worth paying a little more for a rebounder with a warranty than one without.
