How to Make Angel Wings for a Child's Costume

Instructions

    • 1

Bend each hanger to form oval, wing shapes. Try and make them as similar in shape as possible so they look more realistic as wings.

    • 2

Cut the hook part of the hanger off with wire cutters.

    • 3

Lay both your wing shapes side by side and wrap the duct tape around the edges of the hanger where you just cut off the hook. This will secure the wings together as well as getting rid of any sharp edges.

    • 4

Cut approximately 15-20 inches from each leg of pantyhose and stretch one over each wire wing.

    • 5

Gather the extra nylon and twist and secure into the center area with another piece of duct tape. Now you will be able to see your angel wings really starting to take shape.

    • 6

Cut enough length of elastic to fit over your child's shoulders in two loops. Its easiest to do with your child modeling the wings to check you have the right amount. You can also use ribbon for the shoulder straps instead.

    • 7

Secure the elastic in the center area of your hanger by tying a knot and then adding another piece of duct tape.

    • 8

Use a silver glue pen to decorate around the edges of the angel wings to highlight the shape and add decorations such as glitter, sequins or feathers.

    • 9

Wrap the ribbon around the center to hide the duct tape. Alternatively, use your imagination and use something different in the center, such as organza, a large bow or silk flowers.

Tips & Warnings

  • Let your child have fun adding decoration to the wings. Have them sprinkle glitter or stick on sequins or rhinestones to really make it their own.

  • These are also great gifts for little girls who love to dress up. Add their initials to the wings to make a great personalized present.
