How to House Train a Beagle
Beagles are gentle, intelligent and companionable dogs, but they also have a tendency to be stubborn, which can make it a bit more challenging to house train a beagle than some other dog breeds. Proper puppy potty training is essential for the cleanliness of your home---and your sanity. Use these basic techniques and house training a beagle will go more smoothly.

1
Be patient. Accidents will happen while you are house training your beagle. It is important never to punish your beagle puppy for accidentally soiling indoors or the dog may become confused.

2
Start and keep to a schedule. It is important to be consistent and to recognize your beagle's needs. The Humane Society recommends using this rule of thumb to determine how often your furry friend may need to go outside: A puppy can usually hold its bladder one hour for each month of its age. Try sticking with a regular feeding schedule. It will result in a regular elimination schedule, which will automatically make beagle house training easier.

3
Allocate a specific area in the yard for elimination. Always direct your dog to the allocated spot and choose a verbal command (like, "Do your duty") to use each time you return to the spot. Before long, your beagle will begin to recognize the command---and the spot.
-
4
Use a confinement method. When you aren't able to supervise your dog closely indoors, confine him to an adequately-sized dog crate or a small room for a short period of time. Dogs don't like to soil in areas where they have to eat or sleep, so your beagle will hold its bladder and bowels while confined. As soon as the confinement period ends, escort your dog to the proper spot outside.
-
5
Learn to recognize the signs that your beagle needs to be let outside and act immediately. It's probably time to head outside if your puppy is restless, sniffing around or circling. Barking or scratching at the door and squatting are more obvious signs, and shouldn't be ignored if you want to avoid a mess in the house.
-

Always reward good behavior. When your beagle eliminates in the proper area, offer up some verbal praise, physical affection and a tasty treat to reinforce the positive behavior.

Tips & Warnings
When an accident happens in the house, clean it up promptly and thoroughly so your puppy won't detect the odor and think it is an acceptable spot to soil again.
Consider using an indoor dog potty or puppy pad.
Punishment and negative reinforcement rarely works and may cause your beagle to mistrust you.
