1
Talk with the high school teachers your child has classes under. You may need to set up a conference time with the teachers ahead of time. Tell them you are concerned about your child's grades and want to help her improve. A good teacher will gladly talk with you. Find out if your child is paying attention in class, if she is turning in homework and how her behavior is in the classroom. Ask for tips to help your child improve.

2
Require your child to come home right after school and start his homework. Check over his work when he's finished. It may be helpful to have your child write down every assignment in a school planner. That way, he won't forget to do an assignment, and you can be aware of what he is studying in school.

3
Regularly communicate with your child's teacher. This will tell you when she is slipping, doing better or not turning in assignments. It also motivates your child to do her best. If she knows you are regularly communicating with her teacher, she will be more likely to try harder.

4
Get your child a tutor. If your child has a hard time understanding the class work, then hiring a tutor to explain it to him will help a great deal. Working one-on-one with a tutor gives your child the full attention he may need. It's also usually less distracting and allows your child to ask questions he may be embarrassed to ask at school.
-
5
Cut back on your child's extracurricular activities. Homework needs to come before anything else. This needs to be reinforced, at least, until your child raises her grades and can keep them at an acceptable level.
