How to Fertilize a Bing Cherry Tree
Bing cherries produce big, round fruits that vary in color from deep red to ruby-tinged black. They are touted as being one of the juiciest and sweetest cherry varieties and are preferred by many for pies and other cherry recipes. They require cross-pollination to produce fruit, so plant more than one if you plan to harvest cherries. In the spring they blossom with light pink flowers, making them a good choice for landscaping purposes too.
Plant your Bing cherry tree in full sun in slightly acid, well-drained soil. Cherry trees don't like wet feet and don't grow well in clay or standing water. Bing cherries are especially greedy when it comes to nutrients. If you want your Bing to thrive, fertilize it properly.

1
Fertilize your Bing during two seasons of the year; during the blooming season until fruit begins to form and again after you harvest your fruit or all of it has dropped. Fertilize once or twice a month in the spring to encourage a full harvest and plenty of growth and in the autumn to give the roots food during winter.
-
2
Use cherry tree fertilizer over other types. Cherry tree fertilizer is a slightly acid blend of nutrient-rich fertilizer. Most cherry fertilizers are also time-released to ensure that your Bing has a constant source of food.

3
Feed the outer edges of the root base rather than spreading fertilizer close to the trunk. The newest root growth absorbs nutrients the fastest and is located near the ends of the roots.
-
4
Find the area to fertilize by looking at the tree's branches. Pick out the longest branch and drive a garden stake into the ground in line with its tip. Use this stake as a guide to make a circle around your tree, placing garden stakes every 3 feet.

5
Drop shovels-full of fertilizer outside your garden stake circle in a 3-foot band. Rake the fertilizer into an even, 1-inch layer and cover it with a 1-inch layer of mulch. Water generously until the ground is damp but not soaked.
