French braids are elegant looking and keep hair away from the face very well. If you want to dress the elegant look down a little bit, put double French braids in your hair. They keep the hair away from your face while effecting a similar look as French braids. You can do a French braid with a fish bone pattern, or the traditional French braid. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

  1. Fish Bone Style French Braid

    • 1

Part hair down the center of the head from front to back using a comb and then comb both sections straight.

    • 2

Tie off one side to keep it out of the way for now. Then divide the other section into two equal strands.

    • 3

Take a small section from the back of the strand in the back and cross it over to the front strand. Then take a small section from the front of the strand in the front and cross it over to the back strand. Repeat these steps until you reach the bottom of the strands.

    • 4

Finish the end of the double stranded braid with a hair band, then repeat the same steps for the section of hair on the other side of the head.

    Traditional French Braid

    • 5

Part hair down the center of the head from front to back using a comb and then comb both sections straight.

    • 6

Clip or secure one of the sections of hair so that it is out of the way for now.

    • 7

Gather three small, equal hair sections at the top of your head on the one side. Cross them as in a traditional braid--side section over middle section, other side section over middle section--pulling them tightly and evenly.

    • 8

Stop and add another small section of hair to each of the outside strands, then cross the sections a few more times in the traditional braiding pattern. Continue this pattern, gathering hair from each side and then braiding a little bit until you get to the ends of the hair.

    • 9

Use an elastic band to secure the end of the braid, then repeat this process for the other section of hair on the opposite side of the head.

Tips & Warnings

  • Once you have finished your braids, you can finish them off however you like. You can connect the two braids at the bottom with an elastic band or large flower clip. You can put small flowers, real or artificial, in the braids to decorate them. Ribbons also look nice braided into the hair. Depending on the occasion, you can make the braids look however you wish.
