How to Find Out How Much Video RAM Is on Your PC
Video RAM refers to the amount of random access memory your computer has available to run video and graphics. Without adequate video RAM, you'll notice a lot of stopping and starting when you attempt to play videos or video games or run memory-heavy programs. The picture quality may also be subpar. Video RAM needs vary widely among different users, depending on how they use their computers. You can determine how much video RAM is on your PC in only a few simple steps.

Click the "Start" button if you are running Windows XP or the "Start" pearl if you are running Windows Vista. This button is usually located at the bottom-left corner of your screen.

3
Click on "Run" in the Start menu if you are using Windows XP. Skip to the next step if you are using Vista.
-
4
Type in "dxdiag" in the Open box or Search box. This prompts your computer to run the DirectX Diagnostic tool that is standard on all Windows PCs. This tool provides diagnostic information about many different programs on your computer.
-
5
Click on the "Display" tab in DirectX. This will open the tab with information about your display settings, including the video capabilities of your machine. Scan down the list for Video Memory. The amount listed there is the available video memory. It does not list any memory that was in use when you launched DirectX, which is why you want to shut down programs that use video before checking your RAM amount. Doing so gives you a more accurate account of how much video RAM your computer has.
