How to Make Angels From Paper Plates

Paper plates can be one of the most cost effective forms of craft supplies--they are readily available at all grocery stores, are easy to cut and glue, and they are cheaper than fancy colored craft papers. If you are doing crafts with young children, using paper plates can allow for more cutting mistakes without worrying about waste. With just a few strategic cuts and glued-on decorations, you can transform paper plates into different designs. They work especially well for making angels, due to their default white color.

Instructions

    • 1

Cut a paper plate in half down the middle and set one half aside. Grab one side of the paper plate half and roll it loosely until it forms a funnel shape for the angel's body.

    • 2

Spread a thin layer of glue underneath the edge of the rolled portion of the paper plate to secure it into the funnel shape. Set the funnel aside until it dries.

    • 3

Cut out two large triangles from the remaining paper plate that you set aside--these pieces will be the angel wings. Cut out two thin rectangles out of the paper plate scraps for the angel's arms, along with a circle for the angel's head. Draw a face onto the circle for the angel's face with markers.

    • 4

Attach the angel's wings with to the back, outer portions of the funnel. Let them dry, then secure the angel's arms and head into place with glue as well.

    • 5

Wait for the glue on the arms and head to dry. Cut out several pieces of yarn for the angel's hair--the exact length and amount depends on how long you want the angel's hair. Glue the yarn onto the angel's head.

    • 6

Roll a piece of aluminum foil as tightly as possible so it forms a thin strip. Form the end of aluminum strip into a circle, making sure to leave about a 1/2 inch straight tail on the end--this will make a halo. Finish off the angel by placing the straight portion of the halo onto the back of the angel's head, then attach it into place with glue or tape.

Tips & Warnings

  • If the angel's body won't stay glued in place, you can also use a stapler to secure it.

  • Always use kid-friendly safety scissors and carefully supervise any children during the activity to prevent any mishaps.
