1
Purchase a quality compact case with plenty of ventilation slots for your computer. The more ventilation your case gets the cooler it will run and the quieter it will be.
-
2
Select a motherboard with a dual-core processor. The dual-core processor will allow the computer to run more efficiently, and this efficiency will help keep noise to a minimum.

3
Install as much memory as your computer's motherboard can handle. When building a computer it is better to max out the memory from the start than to go back and add memory later. A compact case will be harder to work in because of its small size, so it makes sense to minimize the need for future upgrades by maximizing the memory capacity.

4
Choose the largest hard drive you can afford. A compact case will only allow you to add one or two drives, so it is important to choose the drive with the highest capacity. Connect the hard drive to the motherboard using the SATA or IDE cable and secure it to the drive bay with screws. Make sure those screws are securely fastened.

5
Choose a quality DVD burner for your new computer. The prices of even top end Blu-ray DVD burners have fallen quite a bit, so you may be able to afford a top quality burner. Make sure that the burner is securely in place and that all of the cables are secure.
