How to Create a Page with Drupal

Drupal is one of the leading content management systems. It makes building large and complex community websites relatively easy--once you understand its logic. There are two basic types of information in a Drupal site: pages and stories. The difference is permanence--a story will eventually be pushed off the screen as newer stories are published. A page is a permanent element of the website. A typical site will have an "About Us" page, as well as a "Contact Us" page.

Instructions

    • 1

Open your Drupal website in your web browser. Enter your username and password.

    • 2

Click the "Create content" link in the navigation bar. The location of this link depends upon your template, but it will be grouped with several other navigational links such as "My account," "Search," and "Log out."

    • 3

A new page will load with several options for creating new content in Drupal. Click the "Page" link.

    • 4

On the next page, enter a title for the new page. Type the content of the page in the "Body" text area. Depending on how your website is set up, there may be other options to fill in below the body.

    • 5

Click the "Preview" button. If you do not need to make changes, click the "Save" button to publish your new page.

Tips & Warnings

  • If your page has a lot of content, you may want to split the summary. The summary is the beginning portion of the page that is always displayed, with a "more" link at the bottom. This allows readers to get a sense of what the page is about--before loading the entire page.

  • Depending upon your level of permissions, the page you create may not publish immediately. It may go to an editor for approval before publication.
