How to Convert an RTF File Into .Xls File
RTF (Rich Text Format) is the default format used to create Microsoft WordPad files. This is a popular format because it is a file type that a majority of word processors support. On the other hand, .Xls files are formed when a spread sheet is saved in Microsoft Excel. One way to create a spread sheet out of an RTF file is to convert it to .Xls format.

Download an RTF to .Xls converter program. One program in particular is the RTF Converter 1.0.0. Go to the Free Downloads Center website (see "References") and click "Download RTF Convertor 1.0.0." Click "Open With" and select a file decompression program to unzip the .zip file.

Install the RTF converter. Extract the .zip file and open the "setup.exe" file. Choose a language, accept the license agreement and select a destination location. Create a desktop icon then click "Install." Click "Finish" to launch the application.

Add an RTF file to the project. Click the folder icon under "Input." Select the file and click "Open."

Set an output format. Go to "Tools" on the top menu and select "Options > Conversion." Choose "Excel" as the default export format and click "OK."

Click "Convert." Enter a file name and click "Save." Go to the output folder to view and open the file. Go to "File" and click "Exit" to close out of the program.
