How to Configure Mac Address Book for Exchange 2003

Mac users can rely on their Address Book application to keep track of the names, phone numbers, home addresses and email addresses of their contacts. However, Mac users who use Exchange 2003 may discover that there is no easy way to configure the Mac Address Book to synchronize information with Exchange 2003. To get around this limitation, Mac users should download a specific script that enables synchronization with Entourage, the application that hosts your Exchange 2003 contact information.

Instructions

    • 1

Download the Sync Entourage-Address Book 2 [PANTHER-TIGER] 2.6.4 script from Script Builders (see References).

    • 2

Unzip the downloaded file by double-clicking it.

    • 3

Mount the extracted DMG file by double-clicking it.

    • 4

Drag the Sync Entourage-Address Book 2 folder to any location on your hard drive.

    • 5

Run the PREFS Installer application to configure your preferences for the programs you wish to sync. It is at this point that you will specify the version of Exchange with which you want to sync Address Book. You will also need to specify the configuration of your address book, such as whether you store entries by first name, last name or last name, first name.

    • 6

Double-click the Sync Entourage-Address Book application. Choose which service (Exchange or Address Book) you would like to have priority when syncing two identical contacts. For instance, which service's contact information will trump when syncing two contacts named John Doe?

    • 7

Let the Sync Entourage-Address Book application run in the background to automatically sync your Address Book and Exchange contact information at predetermined intervals. You may set the frequency of synchronization when you first run the syncing application.

Tips & Warnings

  • Configure Sync Entourage-Address Book to launch at start up so that it is always running in the background by launching the "Accounts" option from the Preferences window. Add the application to the list of programs under the "Login Items" tab.
