How to Sew a Lion Mane Costume
Animal costumes are usually very simple to make since they tend to be made of one solid color and a few basic shapes. Although the shape and consistency of a lion's mane may seem difficult to recreate, it's actually quite simple if you have basic sewing skills, common sewing supplies and a little bit of patience. Before you know it, you'll have a custom, homemade lion's mane of which you can be proud.

Cut out a circle of yellow fabric that is 24 inches in diameter. Hem the fabric all the way around the edge, leaving a 1-inch opening in the hem.
-
2
Cut a piece of elastic that is just long enough to wrap around your hairline and over your ears.
-
-
3
Thread the elastic through the hem of the yellow circle of fabric, using the 1-inch opening. Gather the fabric as needed.
-
4
Sew the two ends of the elastic together and sew the 1-inch opening closed.
-
5
Cut 10 pieces of orange felt that are each 20 inches long and 3 inches wide. Fray each piece along one of the longer edges.
-
6
Sew the pieces of fabric from step 5 onto the yellow fabric bonnet. Sew them in a row, allowing the frayed edges to stick up.
