How to Add a Word to Dictionary in Word 2007

Word is a type of word processing software developed by Microsoft. One feature of Word is that you can customize it in many ways. You can change the default settings to change how Word opens or change the page layout. You can also make additions to the Word dictionary. If you use Word 2007, you may have noticed that there are many words that aren't in the dictionary, such as medical and automotive terms. If you use a word often and do not want it to show as being misspelled, you can easily add it to the dictionary.

      Open Microsoft Word 2007 and type in a word you want to add to the dictionary. If it is not recognized by the software, a red line will appear under the word to indicate that it is misspelled.

      Right-click over the word. A menu will open that has several options; you can use one of Word's suggested spellings to change the word, ignore the warning or add the word to the dictionary.

      Click "Add to Dictionary." The red line under the word will disappear, indicating a correct spelling.

  • You can also add words to the dictionary by clicking the Office button at the top of the page. Select "Word Options" from the menu that opens. Click the "Proofing" tab and select "Custom Dictionaries." Click "Edit Word List" in the Custom Dictionaries box that opens. Type in the word you want to add to the dictionary and click "OK."
