How to Help Raise Money for the ASPCA

The American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals, or ASPCA, runs several programs that focus on various animal welfare issues. The organization, which was the first humane society founded in North America, provides pet loss support services and mobile spay/neuter clinics, promotes pet adoption and works to pass laws that protect animals. If you support the ASPCA and want to encourage others to donate, you can join the ASPCA Ambassadors fundraising program or use the organization's free online tools and downloads to help raise money and awareness.

Instructions

  1. ASPCA Ambassador Program

    • 1

Visit the ASPCA Ambassadors website at aspca.org/ambassadors. The program provides two ways for you to help raise funds. You can register a fundraising event or create a tribute page. Select "Personal Events" or "Tributes" to set up a new account.

    • 2

Host an event, such as a bake sale or auction, to help raise money for the ASPCA. You can also participate as part of a team for events such as marathons or work with your local animal shelter to organize an adoption event. Click "Register Your Event" on the Personal Events page. You can join an existing team, form a team or register as an individual. Follow the instructions to register and set up an event page. Enter your billing information for the required registration fee.

    • 3

Create a Tribute Page to celebrate a special occasion, memorialize a deceased pet or person, request donations in place of wedding presents or honor your pet. Your page will include a "Make a Donation" button for visitors. Click the link for the type of page you want to make. Follow the quick form instructions, which include writing your tribute, uploading photos and choosing a fundraising goal amount.

    • 4

Send an email to friends and family to let them know about your tribute or event page. You can also post the link on your blog, website or Facebook and MySpace profiles.

    Other Ways to Help

    • 5

Download free ASPCA widgets---clickable images or icons---to put on your website, blog or MySpace profile. The widgets encourage people to donate to the ASPCA (see the Resources section).

    • 6

Send your friends and family a link to the ASPCA's free toolbar download page. The toolbar raises money for the ASPCA each time it's used while searching or shopping online. The toolbar works with Internet Explorer and Firefox.

    • 7

Join the "Orange for ASPCA" group on Facebook. Log in to your Facebook account. Type the group's name into the Search box in the upper-right corner. Click "Join Group." You can invite your Facebook friends to join as well. The "Orange for ASPCA" page provides a link to download the ASPCA toolbar.

Tips & Warnings

  • Visit the Ambassadors Handbook page for marketing materials to promote your event. You can download and print ASPCA flyers to hand out, anti-cruelty pledge forms, stationery templates for event invitations or letters and logos to use on promotional items such as t-shirts.
