How to Add a Husband to a House Title
Often couples marry, moving into a home that was purchased before the marriage by one of the partners. Adding your husband to your house title is a straightforward process that will require removing yourself as the sole owner of the home and adding both of you as joint owners. This can be accomplished by signing a quitclaim deed and having it notarized and filed with the county. You may obtain a quitclaim form online at PublicLegalForms.com and in most office supply stores.

1
Fill in your name neatly in black ink under the "Grantor" section on the quitclaim form. You also will need to add your home address.
-
2
Neatly print the full names of yourself and your husband under the "Grantees" section. Put a standard consideration of $10 in the "In Consideration Of" section. This is a standard response when no money has been exchanged for the transaction.

3
Fill in the legal property description for your home and the tax identification number. The legal description can be found on your tax paperwork or loan documentation.
-
4
Sign the form in front of a notary public and have it officially notarized. You will be charged a small fee for the service, usually $2 to $5.
-
5
File an excise tax affidavit, which reports a controlling interest transfer on the property, at the county recorder's office. This must be done before you can file the quitclaim deed with the county to have it officially recorded at the recorder's office. A county fee will be charged for the transaction.

Tips & Warnings
The legal location description includes the parcel number, address, city, state and amount of acreage included in the land.
A quitclaim deed can be filled out when there is still a loan out on the home, as it does not guarantee you have ownership of the property free and clear.
Some states require additional witnesses be present when signing with a notary public. Check with your state for local requirements.
