How to Read a PDF File on a Blackberry Bold

The BlackBerry Bold allows users to open and read a PDF file from an email. This is useful for opening work documents when you are away from your office computer.

Things You'll Need

• Blackberry Bold 9000 Smartphone Device
• PDF viewer (Adobe Reader version 5.0 or later)
• BlackBerry Enterprise Server
• Wireless service plan

Instructions

1. Open the email message.

2. Highlight the attachment and display the menu.

3. Choose "Open Attachment."

4. Highlight "Attachment," then "Display Menu."

5. Choose "Expand."

6. Choose one of the following actions:
   Choose "Table of Contents" for file attachment then select "Content."
   OR
   Choose "Full Content" to open file attachments.

7. Choose "Retrieve."

8. Open the PDF document attachment within the email message to view it.

9. Click "Full Image" to enable the full PDF document.

Tips & Warnings

• There is software, such as BeamReader, that allows better resolution for viewing PDF files on a Blackberry.

• There are some security vulnerabilities in the PDF distiller of some versions of the BlackBerry Attachment Service component of the BlackBerry Enterprise Server. These vulnerabilities can allow a malicious individuals to send email messages containing corrupt PDF files that could be opened. Once opened, the PDF can cause memory corruption and possibly lead to a Denial of Service (DoS) attack on that BlackBerry Enterprise Server.
