How to Clean Acrylic Latex Paint on Carpets
Acrylic latex paint is a great medium to use on a variety of surfaces, comes in almost every color imaginable, and is relatively cheap. Though you may be as careful as possible when painting, there's still always a chance a spill will leave an unsightly stain on your carpet or rug. Removing acrylic latex paint can be done easily with the use of a few household cleaning products and a little elbow grease. Does this Spark an idea?
Things You'll Need
- Knife or ruler
- Three clean cloths
- Turpentine or paint thinner (non-oil containing)
- Tablespoon of clear hand washing soap
- Two cups of cold water
- Half a cup of white vinegar
- Two teaspoons of baking soda

Use a knife or ruler to scrape away any extra paint that has spilled. If the paint is dry, just scrape off flakes, and if it's wet scrape until no more excess comes out of the carpet and just the stain is left.

Blot the carpet a few times with a cloth and some turpentine or paint thinner. Whatever you use, make sure it doesn't contain oil and always test it on a small patch of carpet to ensure it won't harm the fibers.

Mix together a tablespoon of clear handwashing soap, a cup of cold water and half a cup of white vinegar in a spray bottle.

Spray stain liberally with the solution and allow to sit for five to 10 minutes. Then use a sponge or cloth to slowly blot out the stain and soak up the mixture. Allow the area to dry for about an hour.

Repeat the last step until stain is lifted and gone, then rinse the carpet with a small mixture of two teaspoons of baking soda and two cups of cold water and blot up. This will help freshen the carpet following stain removal.
