How to Install Themes on a Samsung Instinct

Unlike its successor, the popular Instinct HD, the Samsung Instinct touchscreen phone does not support full-featured themes that alter the appearance of menus and navigation buttons. While adjusting the overall color scheme in this way is not possible, it is easy to achieve a remarkable degree of customization by changing your display settings, including the background image that appears on your Home screen and when your phone is powering up or down. Creating a personalized "theme" this way is both easy and remarkably effective.

Instructions

    • 1

Press the House icon from the Home screen, to access the Instinct's Main Functions menu.

    • 2

Press the icon that looks like a four-paned window to access the Main Options menu.

    • 3

Select "Settings," "Display" and "Background" in turn.

    • 4

Choose an option to browse and select images based on their source. "Take Picture" allows you to capture a new photo and save it as your display image. "Preset Images" shows you photos that come preloaded on your Instinct. "My Photos" lets you view photos you have previously taken and saved to your phone or an optional installed memory card. "Downloads" includes any images you have saved to your phone from the Internet.

    • 5

Scroll through the available images, select the one you prefer.

    • 6

Press the "Assign" button to make the image your new display background.

Tips & Warnings

  • In addition to photos you have taken or downloaded, you can create or acquire other image files to use as backgrounds. For example, you could create a photo collage, design a personalized logo or illustration or simply create a jpeg file with a solid color or interesting pattern. In any case, you should be able to transfer the resulting image file to your phone via email or text message, or by connecting your phone and computer with a USB cable.
