How to Cut & Trim Miters on an Inside Corner

A mitered cut require cutting the molding exactly, if it is going to fit together around a corner. Inside corners are particularly difficult. The trick to making clean mitered inside corners is to position the molding correctly in the miter box. If you take your time in making these cuts, your molding will fit together beautifully.

Things You'll Need

• Miter saw
• Molding
• Lumber crayon
• Coping saw

Instructions

1. Measure your molding. Make a mark with your lumber crayon where you need to make your cut.

2. Place the molding upside down in the miter station. The flat face of the molding will be face down on the table and the top will be up against the back fence.

3. Align the mark you made with your lumber crayon with the appropriate slot in your miter box, or, if you are using a compound miter saw, adjust your saw to the correct angle and align your mark to the saw.

4. Hold your positioned molding securely with one hand while you cut with the other.

5. Trim any imperfections in your cut with a coping saw.
