How to Make Your Own Sales Flyers

Perhaps you already own a successful business and want to come up with additional ways to let your community know about specials or sales events beyond your usual marketing. Or, maybe you are preparing to open a new business and need low-cost options to promote your business to potential customers. Designing your own sales flyer is generally a fairly straightforward project to undertake, but you do need a computer and a graphics program to begin.

      Decide on the information you want to add to your flyer, including the information that must normally be contain is a business flyer, such as your business's name, address and phone number (and website if applicable) along with any legal disclaimers.

      Find and save public domain clip art that can be used in your flyer. For instance, if your sale is a St. Patrick's Day sale, an image of a leprechaun would work.

      Create your design in a graphics program your own or have access to (in your office or a library.) Photoshop is a good program to design your business flyer, as is the freeware program GIMP.

      Create a new document by selecting "File" and then "New" from the drop down menu under file. Next, add you background type by choosing from among the options available. White is often a good option for flyer designs, but you may also select transparent depending on your needs. Pick the dimensions of your document and plug these numbers into the dialog box. Your resolution setting should be at least 300 pixels in order to achieve quality printing results.

      Use the tools available in the program you have selected to create your sales flyer's design. With elements you create in the program, you will want to add a new layer for each element in the "Layers Panel." When you bring in elements (photo, graphics) that you have saved using the "Copy" and "Paste" function, these elements will automatically be placed on a separate layer.

      Select the "Text" tool from the toolbar. Choose a font style, color and size that best fits your design type. Then use the tool to add text selections to your flyer.

      Print your sales flyers from your own office printer or you can opt to have them printed by a print shop or office supply chain that provides this particular service. Staples and Kinkos are examples of office supply stores that offer a flyer printing service. Remember to ask about bulk printing rates if you intend to print a larger quantity of your sales flyers.
