How to Miter Angles for Crown Molding

Cutting mitered angles on crown molding is difficult. Without a miter saw or box these angled cuts would be next to impossible. Instructions

    • 1

Measure the piece of crown molding and make a line with your lumber crayon exactly where you need it to be cut.

    • 2

Set a scrap piece of wood up against the back fence of the miter station. This will help you to hold the molding against the fence.

    • 3

Position the molding upside down and face up in the miter saw station. The part of the molding that will rest on the ceiling will sit on the bottom of the box and the outside will sit up or be facing you. Rest the molding up against the back of the miter saw station and against your scrap wood.

    • 4

Align the positioned molding with the line you drew with your lumber crayon, hold tightly against your fence with one hand and operate the saw with the other.

Tips & Warnings

  • Don't be surprised if it takes you a few cuts to get the exact right fit. Cutting accurate miters is not easy, even with a compound miter saw.
