How to Fill a Fountain Pen With an Ink Cartridge

Gone are the days when a fountain pen is filled directly from an open bottle of ink. Today, you can purchase pre-filled ink cartridges that fit into any brand of fountain pens, wherever office supplies are sold. With the use of cartridges, you can change the color of your fountain pen ink at any time, and a variety of colors are available.

Instructions

1. Unscrew the lower portion of your fountain pen to separate the nib from the body, or barrel, of the pen.

2. Remove the converter cartridge if your pen is equipped with one of these devices.

3. Insert the cartridge into the nib portion of the pen, with the smaller end pointed toward the nib.

4. Press gently, but firmly into place to break the seal on the cartridge and secure it in place. You will hear a soft click when the cartridge is seated.

5. Reassemble the pen by screwing the body back onto the nib section.

Tips & Warnings

• To change colors, simply rinse the nib under cool running water until the water runs clean. Dry the nib with a paper towel and insert the new color cartridge.
