How to Convert a Word Document to an HTML Template

If you are creating a Web page, there's a quick way to design your page as a Word document and convert it into an HTML template. This is helpful if you are using Adobe Dreamweaver, for example, as a Web page editor and want to begin by creating a template (perhaps the home page of your site). This way, you can have the basis of your web page established and create many pages from a template. To do this, begin by designing your template in Microsoft Word.

Things You'll Need

• Microsoft Word
• Adobe Dreamweaver or other HTML editor
• Computer

Instructions

1. Open Microsoft Word. Open the document you want to convert to HTML by clicking the "Microsoft Office" button. Click "Open." Select the file and click "Open."

2. Make sure you have your document designed and edited as best you can before you turn it into an HTML template. If you are more comfortable in Microsoft Word than you are in Dreamweaver, this will make the editing process easier.

3. Click the "Microsoft Office" button. Click "Save As" so that a new dialog box appears.

4. In the "Save as Type" list, select "Web page" to save the file as HTML. Click "Save."

5. Open Adobe Dreamweaver. Open the HTML file.

6. To save it as a template, click "File." Select "Save As Template." Name your file and click "Save." Now your Word document is converted to an HTML template. You can begin editing it and creating new Web pages from it in Dreamweaver.
