How to Upload a Program Onto a Samsung Instinct

With its BREW mobile operating system and full support for Java applications, the Samsung Instinct is a full-featured, versatile multimedia phone. The Instinct is designed to provide a rich multimedia experience right out of the box with its built-in support for music and video, but you can enhance your Instinct by installing applications as well. It is simple to download programs from the Sprint Software Store or third-party sites, but you can also easily upload programs to your Instinct from a PC by using a USB cable and microSD memory card.

Instructions

    • 1

Install the USB drivers on your computer. The drivers are available on the CD-ROM that comes with new Samsung Instinct phones.

    • 2

Insert a microSD or microSDHC memory card with a capacity between 32 MB and 16 GB into your phone. The memory card slot is located on the upper right side of the phone.

    • 3

Plug one end of the USB cable into your computer using any available USB port. Connect the other end of the USB cable to your Instinct using the slot on the upper left side of the phone.

    • 4

On your computer, click "My Computer," and then click on the new drive letter, which represents your Instinct.

    • 5

Drag your program files (i.e., JAR/JAD Java application files) to the "Storage Card" folder within the Instinct drive window. Note that you can also create folders within the "Storage Card" folder to organize your files and applications.

    • 6

Once the program files are uploaded to your Instinct, click the task bar device icon on your computer, follow the instructions that appear and disconnect the USB cable when it is safe to do so.

Tips & Warnings

  • You can also remove the microSD card from your phone, insert it into a USB adapter (often packaged with the Instinct when purchased from Sprint) and connect the adapter to a USB port on your computer. Your computer should recognize the memory card as a portable storage device and allow you to copy program files to it directly.

  • If you choose to install the Sprint Media Manager software package, you can skip Step 1. The package includes the Instinct USB drivers.

  • While the Instinct can accommodate memory cards of up to 16 GB, Samsung recommends using a microSD card 2 GB or smaller for best results.
