How to Create Digital Mosaic Pictures
A picture mosaic uses tens or hundreds of individual pictures to make one large image. Make a picture mosaic to put up in your home, to use as a poster for an event or to give as a thoughtful gift to a friend or relative. You can make your own picture mosaics using computer software.

On a PC

Gather the digital image files you want to use in a mosaic and place them all in the same folder on your computer.

Download and install AndreaMosaic software. This software is free and compatible with PC computers. Other photo mosaic programs are available for a fee. See Resources for a link to the AndreaMosaic software download.

Open the program. Click "Find Tiles" and then "Create Collection" and select the digital image files you want to include in the mosaic. Click "Save."

Click "Load Collection" and select the set of images you want to use in a mosaic. Click "OK."

Specify a desired width and height in pixels for the mosaic, and specify a number of "tiles" or photos you want to appear in the mosaic. Also specify a minimum distance between duplicated tiles.

Click "Add Image" under step three to select a template image for the mosaic.

Click "Create the Mosaic." Your picture mosaic will appear in the folder where your original images are stored.
On a Mac

Click "Choose" to select a template image for the mosaic. Select a mosaic shape in the "Shape of Tiles" drop-down menu. You can choose between Rectangles, Puzzle Pieces and Hexagon. Specify a number of tiles for the width and height of the mosaic.

Select a folder from the "Add Source" drop-down menu and click "Add." The program will take images from this folder to make the mosaic.

Click "Go" to begin making the mosaic. Go to the "File" menu to save the mosaic.

Tips & Warnings
If you do not have a color printer, copy photo mosaics made with AndreaMosaic or MacOSaiX to a CD, and take the CD to a copy center to print the mosaic.
