How to Use a Different Stylus on a Tablet PC

Most every tablet PC comes with a stylus that fits inside a slot on the machine. These styli are completely interchangeable with other Wacom Penabled styli, which adds several layers of customization. The latest tablet PCs with touch screen technology will use absolutely any stylus, but will lack the extra mouse button features and pressure sensing technology. Cross, the maker of fine pens, also makes several tablet PC compatible styli.

Instructions

    • 1

Determine stylus compatibility. Compatibility will depend on your tablet PC, but most tablets running Vista and Windows 7 will use most any stylus. Check your computer's manual to see if your screen is a touch screen or requires a Wacom Penabled stylus.

    • 2

      Turn on the tablet PC.

    • 3

      Open the "Text Input" panel.

    • 4

Use the stylus to ink a message.

    • 5

Click "Insert." If your stylus works, your inking will be converted to typed text.

Tips & Warnings

  • Do not try to insert the new stylus into the manufacturer's stylus slot on your PC. It will not fit and could cause damage to the slot or the stylus.
