How to Fix XP Chkdsk Errors
The Windows XP Chkdsk (or Checkdisk) utility is an operating system utility that is used to check hard drive stability. This utility scans a hard drive for errors in data storage, bad sectors and logical redundancy errors. This utility can also perform an in-depth hard drive platter surface scan. Fixing any errors that are found is an easy process that can be performed by any computer user.

Click the "Start" button located in the lower left corner of the Windows desktop, then click "Run."

Enter the text "chkdsk" (without quotes) into the "Open" text box and press the "Enter" key.

Select the "Automatically Correct Errors" radio button located in the main program window.

Click the "Start" button. This will begin a standard Chkdsk scan. The scan will commence and fix any errors found at the end of the scan automatically. This process may take several minutes to several hours depending on the size and speed of the drive being scanned.
